Screening The Misfortunates at Flanders House

On Wednesday, August 25th, Flanders House continued its Flemish film program with a screening of Felix Van Groeningen's De Helaasheid der Dingen (The Misfortunates.) The movie has won several awards since its international debut.
Based on the semi-autobiographical novel by Dimitri Verhulst, the story follows the rocky coming-of-age of young Guenther, growing up in the hairy bosom of a mostly-male clan of alcoholic louts with a long, proud history of unemployment.
In late March, it was screened - with the support of Flanders House - during The European Union Film Festival, the largest of the annual special projects presented by the Gene Siskel Film Center of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

In the coming months other acclaimed Flemish films will be played at Flanders House. Unspoken, Altiplano,The Memory of a Killer, Double Take, Loft, and The Over The Hill Band are just a few of the titles we plan to screen for you.
