Study in Flanders

small region, excellent education
Filed under:

According to a study produced by the European Union’s Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, Belgium, Finland and Austria have the highest quality of life in the European Union.
Belgium’s major pluses are living space, healthcare, social services, pensions and education.

The standard of education in Flanders today is one of the highest in Europe and it steadily continues to improve. In recent years there have been rapid developments and structural changes in higher education. Universities and university colleges are grouped in associations. As from 2004-2005 they operate within the so called European Higher Education Area formed by the Bologna process that has given birth to a uniform European framework of studies, offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

The website www.studyinflanders.be provides information about study and research opportunities in Flanders for foreign students, researchers and academics.

The information is clustered in different chapters: Flanders, the Flemish higher education system, research, and practical information on how to prepare your stay.

Information concerning the higher education institutions and the study programmes (accredited non Dutch-language courses) can be retrieved through search engines. Further details and contact references are summarized in fact sheets.

Flamenco

Flanders’ Agency for Mobility and Cooperation in Higher Education (Flamenco) was established in October 2008 on the initiative of the Flemish Higher education umbrella organisations (the Flemish Interuniversity Council and the Council of Flemish University Colleges).

In the Flamenco mission it is stated that the agency will contribute to the internationalization of Flanders’ higher education, by visualising its qualities, and by attracting foreign students and staff.
