University of Brussels (VUB) Alumni Seminar

On Saturday, June 25, Flanders House was home to an alumni event organized by the VUB, the University of Brussels. An integral part of the economic mission of the Flemish Minister-President Kris Peeters to the U.S., the event consisted of presentations on various topics brought by speakers such as Marc Noppen, CEO of the University Hospital of the VUB, Professor Herman Tournaye, who teaches developmental biology and embryology at the Medical School of the VUB, Sonja Snacken, Professor of Criminology, Penology, and Sociology of Law at the VUB, and AurĂ©lie CrabbĂ©, Assistant Research Scientist at the Biodesign Institute of Arizona State University. Minister-President Peeters made some closing remarks. It is the first time that a delegation from a Flemish university is invited on a foreign mission and the importance of such initiatives for academic diplomacy cannot be overstated. Through a multitude of cooperative opportunities, The Flemish Government and Flemish Universities can benefit of a multitude of cooperative opportunities in order to achieve their international aspirations. The University of Brussels, under the leadership of Professor Paul De Knop, President, is pursuing an ambitious international campaign. Professor De Knop earned a PhD. in Physical Education at the Faculty of Physical Education and Physiotherapy of the VUB, graduated in leisure studies at the same university and earned a Master’s Degree in Sports Sociology and Sports Management from the University of Leicester (UK).
